Why this works
Time2Play is therapeutic play. It is not ‘play therapy’ in the counselling form, but it offers the therapeutic principles that enable children establish healthy relationships with themselves and others. Our philosophy is to offer positive, healthy attachment experiences and professional integrity with each child, to build connections that mirrors a ‘good nurturing parent’. Children (and young people) need the right tools to build fundamental foundations within their overall development. As a result, it creates healthy chemicals within the brain, which ultimately enables children (and young people) to have better coping strategies and emotional regulation. In the long run, they will develop a strong sense of self and the ability to sustain healthier relationships.
Our Play Practitioner use therapeutic techniques through games and activities, with a different theme each week. This helps children to understand and cope with change, creativity, and find a variety of ways to learn whilst having fun. Most importantly, the Time-2-Play Kids will learn about values and principles of life (such a empathy, showing kind hands, feet and words, using appropriate language, showing good manners, being kind and helpful, being respectful, etc). Parents will need to support their child’s growth by encouraging them to build up their confidence in each class.
Safety is paramount! Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes in class. Please bring water and light snacks for the child. Maximum 2 children per parent to ensure each child is supported fairly, especially if ‘break-away’ time is needed. During seasonal occasions within the year, we would like to acknowledge and celebrate that festivity with the children and parents. On days where photos or videos are taken, please remind your Practitioner at the start of the class if you do not wish for your child to be taken. Time-2-Play is a space to learn, laugh and have fun whilst learning!
The Importance of Play
Play is …
structured, free, expressive, risky, safe, explorative, pretend, creative and imaginative
Play allows children to learn and strengthen their overall development and wellbeing. It can decrease anxiety levels, low mood and improves social isolation. The ability to play encourages children to learn what is safe play, make their own risk assessments, limitations, boundaries, and capabilities. It can also help them become curious, creative, observe, experiment, act out and recreate what they’ve learned into manageable play that tests out their own understanding of the world. Children can feel positive and happy within themselves, laugh and have fun learning different cultures in different spaces.
Our Classes
Tiny Hands – Under 4s
Classes are aimed at providing relevant age-appropriate games which helps to draw out confidence, communication skills, listen to and acting upon instructions, reducing negative behaviour, creating healthy pathway connections in the brain, make new friends and feel part of something. As children become used to the classes, they become more confident, empowered to help support and encourage new children in the class, which helps them to settle more quickly.
